Saturday Jun 29                                        Sunny, cloudy & cool                                         Crawford Bay, BC
Yesterday was a funny day weather-wise - some sun, some cloud, then some more sun, then cloud...and repeat all day. So we decided to stay around the campground.

But this morning it was time to get out and about. The forecast looked a little more promising. Besides after a day in yesterday, we had places to go and people to see!

First stop? Red's Bakery for coffee and treats. Actually we did look at the bead "store" across the highway from Red's but it was closed, I guess, for the weekend.
After coffee we got Jen's wheelchair and walked the short distance into Crawford Bay.
First stop there was Barefoot Handweaving. We spoke to Janet at length. She even hopped on the big loom in the shop and gave us an in-depth look at the fabric she was weaving. I found her explanation and her work absolutely fascinating!
Can you see the computer screen on the window sill? It's connected to the loom and shows Janet where she is, in the weaving process. Quite a neat piece of technology - old and new combined - a perfect marriage.

Here's Janet working at another loom. Pretty busy lady!
Before we left the shop, we bought a couple of place mats. Using them in the years to come will remind us of this wonderful shop and gallery. Oh, and by the way, Janet's husband built the gallery using straw bales in the walls.

Next stop was the broom shop. We were here the other day. I didn't take a lot of pictures, but we really wanted to find a broom we could display in Ali. And we did!
This machine is called Edward Scissorhands. Notice the two needles that do the binding of the brooms with dowel handles. Apparently this is quite the machine to watch, and to be aware of, when it's in operation.
A leisurely stroll back to the campground and we're pretty much done for the day.

See you next time.
