Tuesday Jul 16                                                      Sunny & hot                                                         Trail, BC
Well, after a rude awakening at 0630 this morning (the Ford dealership next door is having a new metal roof installed), we drove to the Info Centre in downtown Trail.

Next stop was the Teck Interpretive Centre in downtown. I asked about going on a tour of the Teck facilities up on the hill. Any day at 10 a.m., following a 40-minute presentation and 2 short videos, we follow the guide to the Teck plant and go on a tour which lasts about 1 hour. Unfortunately it is not wheelchair friendly so we'll be going, probably Thursday. Jen can join in at the Interpretive Centre, just not go to the Teck plant itself.

Then it was time for coffee. Jen had 4 coffee shops on her list. We walked by the Trail Coffee Co. and decided to have coffee and a muffin there. Boy was the coffee ever nice. We drink medium coffee these days. Kick Ass dark roast is a long time ago. The server poured me a dark coffee. I realized it was not medium, but I decided to try it anyway. I'm sure glad I did. The dark roast was really smooth, not bitter at all. I think we will be going back 'cause the Banana/Blueberry muffin was great too!

After coffee, we met a lady with a very colourful long-haired daschund. We could not not say hi!
We walked along the street then turned towards the Columbia River.
It was a nice morning so we decided to do the loop: walk across the suspension bridge, then back across the highway bridge.

On the bridge looking up, then down the majestic Columbia River. Downtown Trail is  on the left.
Just look at the colours of these flowers.
We walked along the other side of the river then crossed back on the "Trail Bridge".
Here's the view of the Teck smelter from the Trail bridge.
Trail, more specifically West Trail, is home to 63 unique covered staircases. Built in the 1930s and 1940s, the staircases provide easier acccess to the downtown core. Fun fact: stacked atop one another, the staircases would equal 6,610 vertical fee or 1.25 miles (2 km). Here's what a couple of them look like. (Plagarized text from 2019 Visitors Guide)
It looked like it was going to rain after lunch so I thought I would update the blog. And it did rain, quite a bit, with thunder a ways away. The more rain, the less chance of forest fires. Our park host, BJ, said that this time last year he could not see across the park because of the smoke.

That's it for today. Gonna get the BBQ out. See you next time.
