Sunday Aug 18                                                 Sunny & hot                                                          Midway, BC
Yesterday, Saturday, I decided it was time to get back on my bike and go for a pedal. The weather has been very cooperative this weekend—sunny and very pleasant, pleasantly warm, not the hot temperatures forecast earlier.

I decided to head west from Midway on the KVR portion of the Trans Canada Trail. The trail was okay, just a little rougher than I expected. And of course as soon as my bum was on the seat, the sun started really beating down on me. I made it to the west side of Midway and its welcome sign just off the highway.
I didn't fancy riding back along the bumpy trail so I pedalled on the wide paved shoulder back to the campground. Just over 5 miles in total, not much, but better than just sitting on my duff for the afternoon.

The Kettle Valley Museum is open today so I thought I would go take a look. A separate building houses the museum, just beside the Midway station.

Inside the museum is a depiction of the one-room schoolhouse.

This information board about logging in the area is interesting.
Ahhhh….the stories these ladies could tell...

One of the more interesting items was this quilt hanging on the wall of a long narrow hallway. Unfortunately, I couldn't get far enough away to get the entire quilt in one picture, so here is the right side of it, along with some of the individual pictures in the quilt itself.

Heading outside there are covered displays of many of the logging and farm implements used in decades past.

Back into the museum and out the other side sits the proverbial Canadian Pacific wooden caboose and the station.
Inside the station are a number of interesting displays...

Here's an interesting piece of railway equipment...

As I left the station, I took this picture...
That Velocipede gave me a suggestion for the museum—extend  the track in front of the station, to the west, put the Velocipede on the rails and charge a fee to ride the Velocipede down the rails and back.

At 2 p.m., I went tubing on the Kettle River for about 2 hours. Two ladies from Minnesota, visiting friends in Midway, were my companions. We had great fun and lots of good conversation. Unfortunately, within sight of the bridge, and our "finish line", the wind picked up and basically blew us to a stop. But what fun! 29C in the shade but on the crystal clear Kettle River, the temperature was absolutely gorgeous. I didn't take any pictures 'cause my phone's not waterproof.

Today is our last day in Midway. Tomorrow we head west to Rock Creek then north on Hwy 33 towards Kelowna. We're not booked in anywhere so it will be interesting to see what we can find.
