Saturday Aug 31                                                      Sunny & warm                                                   Yale, BC
One of the towns that we have driven through for decades but never stopped to look around is Yale, BC. Yale is just a few miles north of Hope at the southern end of the Fraser Canyon. Today we are going to Yale to take a look around.

Before we go, has anyone seen Harry???

Ten miles north of Hope is the town of Yale. Back in its heyday, the population was upwards of 60,000 souls.

The history of Yale is kept alive in the Historic Yale display, located between Hwy 1 and the CP mainline through the Fraser Canyon.

On the way in, we read the information boards displayed on the fence. Click on the Thumbnail below to display the picture.

The entrance to the Historic Yale is in the Creighton House. This is just outside.

Creighton House is a museum that documents the early days of Yale. Here are some of the items I found of interest.

Any teachers out there?? And if you were a student, look out...

Now you know stage coaches were not just in the movies...

While I was looking around, I heard a familiar sound. Let's step outside…

Today's modern diesel engines are a far cry from those of yesteryear!

On the pathway outside I noticed this plaque...

Quite an interesting display of days gone by.

We looked for a place to grab a coffee with no luck, so we hopped in Alfie and drove a short distance back towards Hope to the Sidecar café. We sat out on the patio and had a lovely lunch. I had to help Jen with her Hearty Start. Just check out the size of the fruit bowl compared to the "standard-sized" muffin. My breakfast sandwich paled in comparison.
Just a few yards down Hwy 1 was the road to Emory Creek Coop. Our post-polio friend, Dorothy and her model railroader hubby, Richard, have their trailer permanently set up there, along with many of their family. We took a chance that they might be there on this long Labour Day weekend and to our pleasant surprise they were.

Last time we saw these guys was April 2018 in Victoria when PPASS, the Post-Polio Awareness & Support Society of BC, closed its doors due to a lack of funding.

We had a lovely visit. I took this picture as we said goodbye. Richard was not available.
Our girlfriend Donna arrives tomorrow morning for an overnight visit. We haven't seen her for quite a while. It'll be nice to catch up.
