Saturday Sep 21 - Wednesday Sep 25                                                                                     Earls Cove, BC
Shortly after breakfast this morning, Jen noticed this fella outside our window - an elk. He had quite a the set of antlers!

He grazed on the damp grass beside us for about 20 minutes. We've seen elk before, but never this close. It was a neat experience!

Showers are forecast for later this afternoon so we thought we'd take the opportunity to visit the Iris Griffith Field Studies and Interpretive Centre just down the highway.
The Interpretive Centre is a timber-frame building as you can see in these pictures. However, instead of all dimensional lumber, the major beams are complete trunks of a number of trees. Quite interesting!
In a corner of the building is this display...
On the front lawn of the Centre was this display...
On the way back from Madeira Parks, we stopped at Dan Bosch Park to have a look around. The park is on Ruby Lake and features a small sandy beach.
To end our travels today, we drove the short distance to the BC Ferry terminal and the Cove restaurant. We got there just as the ferry was leaving. We enjoyed a coffee and a cheese scone.
More to come...
Tuesday

Yesterday it rained and rained. We drove to Madeira Park for groceries and have a bit more of a look around. We're glad we did the harbour cruise last Friday as you really cannot see anything from the roads around the area - just driveways leading to houses of all ages and sizes. So we returned to Timberline RV.

This morning we were very pleasantly surprised to see the sun peaking through the breaking clouds. Hmmm, perhaps this IS a good day to head to the Egmont Museum and then to the Backeddy Pub just around the corner.

As we closed up Ali, Toby, the neighbourhood dog, stopped by looking for a treat...
We drove the few clicks to the Egmont Museum and looked at some of the items on the grounds...
Sorry to the museum, but we've been to a few museums this trip. Let's head on over to the pub for some lunch.

Looking out at the view from the sunny deck. Lunch was good but a little overpriced. We should have known, the Pub is part of a resort and marina.

No matter, it was just lovely sitting on the deck in the sunshine - pretty much only our second sunny after-noon since we arrived on the Sunshine Coast three weeks ago!
I ordered a burger and Jen ordered Salmon Tacos. She'd already had one before I remembered to take a picture.
After lunch we headed back to Timberline RV.

This is our last afternoon in this part of the Sunshine Coast. Tomorrow we take the ferry to Saltery Bay and drive to Powell River for 6 days.

See you there.
