June 12 - Hudson's Hope, BC - W.A.C. Bennett and Peace Canyon Dams
This morning we drove out to Hudson's Hope then to the W.A.C. Bennett dam.

It is quite the site! Tours are every hour so we had time to drive across the dam to the lookout before the tour started. WOW!!

We got back to the Visitors Centre in time but by that time, the sun had come out. Jen decided to stay with Mattie so I went on the tour with 2 tour guides and the bus driver. As I was the only "patron", I told the tour guides that I would do my best to keep them entertained.

We drove down 500' to the access tunnel
and into the sub-structure of the dam. The
tour took about an hour, cost $5, and
was well worth it! Full marks to BC Hydro
and their Visitor Centre staff!

On the way back to Chetwynd, we stopped to take a look at Flower Pot Island and the Peace Canyon dam, downstream from the Bennett dam:

We also toured the museum at the Visitors Centre which was very interesting. For a change, instead of a skeleton of a dinosaur, we viewed a full-sized model:
There were also many models of horse-drawn farm equipment along with a superb model of the SS Dawson Creek paddlewheeler that plied the river waters.

We arrived back at the rig after a full day of sightseeing. It was fun!

Tomorrow we drive to Dawson Creek and Mile 0 of the Alaska Highway. See you then!
