Oct 04 - Ferndale, CA
After dealing with the chores this morning, we set off around noon to explore Ferndale, CA. Jen had read about the historic buildings in Ferndale. It's only a 15-minute drive so let's go!

The weather continues to be absolutely beautiful. There's no breeze this morning which is a pleasant change. And the temperature is in the low 20Cs too.

We had a walk around downtown Ferndale and admired the heritage buildings.
So there you go.....Ferndale was very interesting and not too busy today.

We hopped back in the van and decided to check out the "Apple Festival" in Fortuna.

Turns out the town blocks off a couple of downtown city blocks where vendors sell their wares. Kids were wandering by with revolting looking ice cones and cotton candy. Just what they need, MORE sugar! Farm tractors were pulling patrons on hay rides. It looked like everyone was having fun!

We sat for a few minutes and listened to a live band.

Okay, that's done, so I guess it's back to the park where we can relax for the rest of the day. Oops, nope, we need a few groceries and gas!

From Oregon's $2.19/gal for gas where it is state law that you cannot pump it yourself (NJ is the only other state with a similar law), we now have to endure higher prices - $2.99/gal AND I have to pump it myself.

Tomorrow we head for the Fort Bragg area. It'll be nice to get back to the coast, not that there is anything wrong with where we are right now. But there is not much to look at, scenery-wise.

So check back tomorrow.
