Jun 02 -  Quyon Ferry & Cantley, QC
Backing up just a little, here are some highlights
of our 3 days at Golden Lake RV Park.

May 30

After we set up at the park, we drove back to Killaloe, a few miles west of the park. We thought we'd check out the birthplace of "bearclaws". Turns out they are nothing more than a shaped, sugary donut so we passed. But I found the mural painted on the end of the post office building fascinating.

We took our coffee to a little wayside park just down the highway – we saw it when we drove to the little hamlet of Golden Lake the day before. The sun was shining and the lake was cool.

We returned to the park. A short while later, I wandered out to find Zoey lying by Alfie in the shade. What a gorgeous Bernaise Mountain dog she is and so gentle.
And so today, well, it is moving day. We've had a lovely 3-day stay at Golden Lake RV Park. Situated right on the lake, it is a very idyllic place. Here's pictures of the lake and our site in the trees.
It rained very lightly overnight so everything was wet this morning. The forecast had called for rain but as usual, I did not think to put Jen's wheelchair into the trailer last evening. So it was a little trying getting the w/c up the ramp and into the rig with wet wheels. But we did it.

We set off about 10 a.m. down Hwy 60 towards Renfrew – we needed some groceries and we weren't sure what we'd find when we got to Cantley.

Ontario Dept of Highways is refurbishing Hwy 60 through Renfrew. By the time we got to No Frills on the other side of town, the right side of Ali was covered in mud from the road works. So after picking up some groceries, we headed for the car wash to rinse off the grime.

We got to the Quyon ferry (10 minute ride across the Ottawa River) and rolled right on which was nice – no waiting around. The ferry is very much like the ferry that used to ply the Fraser River just east of Maple Ridge.

We could definitely see the valley as we rolled down the highway, but not in this picture - too flat.
Soon we were in city traffic. But after a stop for gas, we turned north to Cantley, QC and our campground for the next week or two. We checked in and drove to our site. It took a while to figure out how to position Ali on this corner site, but we did. It's a nice large site overlooking a fishing pond and right across from the washrooms which is nice – not far to walk.

So that's about it for today. We're going to check out Ottawa, find some places to park at the various places we want to visit, especially the US Consulate for our Jun 8 visa interview.

I'll get back to you when we have something interesting to report.
