Jun 27 - La "vieux" Montmagny, QC
A lazy day today. After coffee this morning we drove to the park on the other side of the riviere du sud (South river). I went for a bike ride there yesterday afternoon but did not have my BlackBerry with me to take pictures.
From what I remember of the various plaques I read (en francais!), originally there were rapids on the South river. To harness its power, the dam was built with some of the water funneled off to a mill (red roof - now a residence). Camping Pointe Aux Oies, where we are, is across the river.
Jen and I walked to the L'Isle-aux-Grues ferry terminal – the ferry runs from this side of the river to the island in the St Lawrence. Here's something for BC Ferries fans: the ferry is free. Takes 30 minutes to cross the 8 km.
We learned that a fish (bar rayé), native to a small area of the St Lawrence, was fished between the '20s to the mid-'60s when they were essentially wiped out. There have been efforts to re-populate the fish in the area since.

Back in Alfie, we went into "vieux Montmagny". Narrow streets, shops, etc. Not quite as picturesque as old town Quebec, but pretty nonetheless.
Back at Ali, we had a spot of lunch. Our neighbour across the way, Giselle, a lovely lady, came over to wish us bon voyage. We have spoken a few time since we arrived – Giselle trying her anglaise and us trying our francais. We got along famously and mostly understood each other.

It started raining so we came inside. It's nice to see the rain – at least today is cooler.

In the morning, we leave for Camping Annie, an RV park along Hwy 132 past Rimouski in the village of Métis-sur-Mer.

See you there!
