Jul 8 - Petite Lamèque & Miscou Point Lighthouse, NB
That was a very interesting and informative ½ hour walk.

We arrived back at the campground, made some dinner, and settled in for the night.

Tomorrow we head south towards Miramachi and beyond. See you then.

Two days of rain – we've had enough. Fortunately
when we broke camp this morning, it was not raining,
but the trees were full of moisture so every small gust
of wind meant another minor soaking. I got pretty
good at dodging the rain drops!

We left Quebec this morning and lost an hour too. We
are now on Atlantic time, 4 hours behind the west
coast.

The drive today wasn't too exciting. The "scenic" Acadian drive the info centre person told us about wasn't very scenic, unless you really like driving through small villages and lots of trees on either side of the highway.

But having said that we drove through the "supervillage" of Belledune.
After Jen had her rest, we drove to Miscou Point Lighthouse. The lighthouse is at the end of the highway. On the way there, the clouds lifted and the sun began shining. Wow, was that ever nice! The temperature only reached 18C on our drive, but with the sun shining, it made all the difference. The last few days have been really dreary and gloomy. And it's almost the middle of July for cryin' out loud!
The peninsula we're on is a series of islands. Miscou is the last island.

Here we are going up………………………………and coming down the other side.
And how about that – there was a Silverado pulling a converted cargo trailer. It was Garnett, the gentleman we met a couple of days ago in Bonaventure, QC. He was walking his 2-year-old Springer Spaniel "Rosey". Well I couldn't resist calling to Rosey which meant Garnett soon followed. We walked back to Alfie and had a good chat before Garnett headed off to his next stop and we made some coffee. Small world! A few minutes later and we would have missed him.

We continued to our destination – Camping Lamèque in Petite Lamèque. We're just here for the night.

One thing we noticed today was the lack of roadside stopping places. Quebec seemed to have a "Halte Municipal" in almost every village. New Brunswick, nothing for the first couple of hours, then we spotted a small parking area wedged between the sea cliff edge and the highway.

Finally we arrived at the Miscou Point lighthouse.
Ahh, getting closer to our destination.
We looked back at the Gaspé peninsula in the distance. Chaleur Bay is a very big bay.
On the way back we stopped at a site we noticed on the way to the lighthouse – a boardwalk around a Peat Bog.
We walked around the lighthouse grounds and took a couple more pictures.
This was a very interesting display. The boardwalk encircled a large pond. At various points around the walk we display boards explaining various aspects of a peat bog. So here's all you ever wanted to know about a peat bog in a few pictures.
