Sep 05 - Into the Mountains of Idaho
After a slightly circuitous route, we found the falls. And we were sure glad we did.

Here we are just starting down the road towards the falls.
This morning, as we passed through Twin Falls, ID, we went looking for
Shoshone Falls, the "Niagara" of the west.

It really is amazing…..there you are travelling along the "flat" plains of
Idaho and all of a sudden there's a bridge looking over this.

Down safely, we stopped in Horseshoe Bend for a break. Hey, this is interesting, look at this.
We came over this.
Really a stupendous site. It reminded us a little of the Grand Canyon.

Back on the road we made our way out of Twin Falls then headed north up Hwy 55. The first chore was getting up and over a 4,242' pass!

Up….                                                                                                         Down…
With the falls to the right, here is the gorge downstream.
After parking the rig, we walked to the falls overlook.
We broke out onto a wide flat valley and a few miles later we were at a campground in Cascade, ID. It is so peaceful and tranquil here, we've booked in for 2 nights.

More later.

The highway ran along side the Payette River. We crossed over to the other side at the Rainbow Bridge.
From 1998 until 2015, the Idaho Northern and Pacific Railroad (INPR) operated the Thunder Mountain Line, a tourist railroad between Horseshoe Bend and Cascade. The Thunder Mountain Line offered scenic tours, dinner trains and "river and rail" trips along the Payette River that allowed people to ride a train north and return southward by river raft on the Payette River. Damn, too late as usual!

We got back on the highway and headed north to Cascade. Yup, it's the end of the Labour Day long weekend and everyone is heading home. The lineup stretched for miles. Oh the joy of getting away from it all for the weekend!

In 2006, quite a bit more impressive!
