Friday Jul 5                                                 Sun, some cloud & rain                                               Nelson, BC
After coffee this morning, we drove north to Nelson. Jen needed to pick up some beading supplies at Abacus Beads.

On the way, I took pictures of 2 of the 4 dams on this stretch of the Kootenay River. The first dam is the Brilliant dam.
Different companies own different dams so you won't find the Brilliant dam on the drawing above.
The next dam we saw was the Corra Lin dam and the entrance to the 5 km Kootenay Canal which leads to the Kootenay Canal generating station. I believe the "tower" structure to the right is a device to control the amount of water flowing to the generating station.
We arrived in Nelson and walked to Abacus Beads. Jen's really impressed with this bead shop as it has a lot of sterling silver findings that Jen likes to use rather than silver plate.

We both like the way the product is displayed. This picture really doesn't do the displays justice. You'll just have to take our word that it is really quite an elegant way to display beads of all shapes and sizes.
After well over an hour in the shop, we were hungry. We walked into the Dominion Café but other than bacon and eggs (not necessarily together) everything was vegetable based. I was hoping for more standard fare for lunch. Long story short, we ended up at the Kootenay Bakery Café.

After a bite, we drove to the Visitors Centre where there are a couple of old diesels in the maroon and grey colours of the Canadian Pacific. 7009 is a Fairbanks Morse H16-66 and 4104 is a C-Liner. I had numerous C-Liner models both A and B units back in the good old days.
Jen mentioned a park just around the corner she wanted to check out—Cottonwood Falls.
On the way back to Castlegar, Jen snapped this picture of the Kootenay River.
Farmers market tomorrow morning. See you there.
