Oct 06 - Fort Bragg, Day 2
Gotta admit it is nice to sleep in once in a while! This is our second day in Fort Bragg. Time to do some sightseeing!

We drove to Noyo Harbour, right underneath the Hwy 101 bridge. Jen said it reminded her of the docks at French Creek - going through the businesses that line the harbour. We had a brief walk around, chatted with some locals - one of them had caught a nice looking salmon - about 6-7lbs, I figured.

Okay, now it was time for coffee. Off to the Mendocino Cookie Factory up on the highway for morning refreshments.

We parked on the main street a few doors down from the shop. Passing by the museum, we noticed this.

We hopped back into the van and drove out to the headlands at the mouth of the Noyo harbour. It was really nice to see how clear the water was.
Did you notice how long it took to fall the tree?? #11 above. I wonder how long it would take today to cut down a tree that size. Probably a few minutes with today's technology.

Well after a cookie and a scone and some drinks, it was time to walk it all off. We happened to be in the old part of Fort Bragg where there are many small businesses within a few blocks. So Jen decided it was time for her to get some exercise. Arm-in-arm we strolled until we came across the Mendocino Chocolate Factory. Hmmm, I thought I felt a little extra pressure on my arm in that direction as we were walking.

After tasting a few of the samples, we bought a couple of treats.

From there, we headed to the Mendocino Botanical Gardens. The 1/2 mile trails out to the bluffs are accessible so Jen hopped on her chair and away we went.
A highlight of our walk around the gardens was bumping into Charlie, a Labradoodle. Well, actually Charlie was walking with his owners, Chris and Pamela, who were visiting from just north of San Francisco. Charlie is a rescue dog and was very nervous - I think Jen's chair was something new for him. But as we chatted with Chris and Pamela, Charlie settled down. It was nice for us meeting a friendly dog and getting some doggy love and affection. I wish we'd taken some photos. What a nice couple and what a nice pup - well Charlie is 6, but all dogs have some puppy in them even as they age. I gave Pamela our card. I hope she and Chris follow us along on our trip. Really nice folk!

Well, it was back to the van one more time and back to camp. I was dying to try one of our chocolate delicacies. I think that was lunch, wasn't it (calorie-wise!).

That's about it for today. Oh, we decided to stay one more day at Pomo RV Park. So we'll see what tomorrow brings!
Fort Bragg - Day 3

Today it's been cloudy and a little misty.

But that didn't stop us from heading down the coast to Mendocino for a look around and a coffee at the Goodlife Cafe and Bakery. I washed the van at long last and picked up some Sockeye salmon for dinner (yes, of course, some white wine too!)

We're booked into an RV park just a bit inland for a week starting this Sunday. We didn't fancy paying $70+ US a night just to park the rig by the ocean! Besides by 7:30 p.m., it's dark!

One bit of good news for us is that Dell and Dave (family - niece of my auntie by marriage) arrive in San Francisco next Tuesday at the start of a 3 week tour of California, Nevada, Vegas. So we will have an opportunity to catch up with them on Wednesday when they stay in Monterey.

Tomorrow we head south towards Olema, on the coast just north of San Francisco. See you there!
